Wallace 100 :: What We Do
In the early 1980's, the Wallace business community took a proactive and
progressive action to establish The Wallace 100 Committee, Inc. Its purpose
is to aggressively seek new businesses and promote the welfare of trade,
manufacturing, industrial, and agricultural interest for the area.
The Wallace 100 Committee offers financial incentives for companies interested
in moving to or starting a business in Wallace; works with these enterprises
to find suitable locations that meet their every need; and networking
to insure a smooth transition into the community. Spec buildings are available
for those in need of a timely solution for space.
The Wallace 100 Committee works intimately with the Wallace
Chamber of Commerce to provide a strong platform for community participation
in business. The Wallace Chamber of Commerce boasts well over 100 members
and hosts monthly luncheons with speakers, evening business socials, and
other special events. The Christmas Parade is one major community event
sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
The Wallace Revitalization Association was organized in 1993 to support
the rehabilitation and renovation of downtown commercial buildings. In
1995 the Wallace downtown shopping area was awarded the distinction of
Commercial Historic District by the United States Department of Interior,
thus listing Wallace in the National Register of Historic Places.
Today, Wallace's Main Street is alive with customers who shop in an interesting
mix of retail stores and who patronize several professional offices. In
support of the efforts of the Wallace Revitalization Association the Wallace
Town Council, working through the Public Works department, has joined
together in the revitalization efforts of the town by putting into place
a beautification and clean up program.
This program will continue the efforts to enhance the southern charm and
appeal of Wallace. The joint efforts of these organizations give the overall
community a strong sense of pride that helps to promote local commerce
and turns merchants o the community into friends of the community.
